New Plan Show Slightly Smaller Strip Club District

The commission approved a plan to create a 2.7 acre adult entertainment district instead of the originally proposed 3 acres. That means one less strip club than the city originally planned because zoning regulations allow only one per acre in the district.

It was a nod to the opposition coming from neighbors of the strip zone but not enough to win over some residents of Stonebridge such as Lynlee Nordgren.

Lynlee Nordgren: I feel it's an unhappy compromise. I'm still concerned that big business made a decision to go into our residential neighborhood and also on the tow path and that the city supported big business without looking at other interests in the area.

The plan will help the city avoid a potentially hefty legal fight with Larry Flint's Hustler Club, which is located on the East Bank of the Flats. That's where developer Scott Wolstein plans to build a $232 million waterfront development that includes housing and retail. He has already reach buyout deals for 11 out of 12 properties.

The new district approved Friday would move the Hustler Club south to a location neighboring the Diamond's Men's Club. The legislation will head to City Council next month for final approval.
