Library Levies on Ballot

A number of libraries in Summit, Stark and Lake counties are hoping citizens are willing to part a few extra dollars for improved library service. In most locations the additional levy would amount to $50 or less a year for a home valued at $100,000. The Cuyahoga Falls Library is going to voters for the third time in three years. Director Kevin Rosswurm says library levies have advantages over school levies because they tend to be smaller and serve a broader population.

Kevin Rosswurm: We provide service to everyone, whether they have preschool children or whether their into retirement. We service the entire gambit of the population, not just school-aged children.

That argument came very close to persuading a majority in Cuyahoga Falls last November but the measure failed by 125 votes. The state of Ohio froze library funding increases in 2001. Lisa Ann Pinkerton, 90.3.
