Rehab or Tear It Down?

Tearing down the hundreds of abandoned homes and buildings that litter the Northeast Ohio landscape and creating some new green space sounds like a win-win. But, some say we're throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Preservationists claim there are plenty of well-built older properties that could be brought up to snuff with a little rehabilitation. Others say those preservation dollars would be better spent patching up roads and fixing ancient water lines. And, what happens when you add the price of abating lead and asbestos from an older home --- does that make it cheaper to tear down or rehab?
