This first half of the 130th General Assembly was a fairly productive session, with nearly 60 bills passed by lawmakers covering topics including the state budget and various other spending blueprints, internet cafes, jobless benefits, election laws, pensions, the state auditor’s authority to audit JobsOhio and a Columbus schools plan similar to one for Cleveland. To look back on the first year of the 130th General Assembly and look ahead to what’s likely to be a very busy 2014, the leaders of the Ohio House sit down together for an exclusive interview. Republican Speaker Bill Batchelder will start both his fourth year as Speaker and his final year in the House in 2014. Democratic Minority Leader Tracy Maxwell Heard has held that post for a year, and will also be starting her final term in the House next year as well.
