Marc Dann has become the first former attorney general to be disciplined by the Ohio Supreme Court. The final count of provisional ballots is underway at the Secretary of State’s office. Two Ohio US Senators – one a former Senator and the other the man who replaced him – are speaking out about the so-called fiscal cliff, the package of tax increases and spending cuts that will take effect if Congress doesn’t act. And both Republicans are saying tax increases are acceptable under certain conditions.
For most of the last year, the Ohio Department of Transportation has been navigating through a bad stretch of road. Gov. John Kasich has long maintained that the Turnpike is an underutilized asset, and his plans for the Turnpike are likely to come out by the end of this month. In June, two veterans of state government talked about the role the Turnpike might play in helping fix those financial holes in ODOT’s budget. Rep. Rex Damschroder is a Republican from Fremont and is on his second tour of duty in the Ohio House of Representatives, and chairs the House Transportation Committee. Gene Krebs is a former state representative from Preble County in southwest Ohio and is the former senior director for government affairs and policy at Greater Ohio, a think tank that works on issues related to transportation, growth and land use. But there are lots of opponents to a possible lease of the Ohio Turnpike, and they are diverse. They include Republican former state Sen. Gary Suhadolnik, the former head of the Ohio Turnpike Commission.
