Kasich Lauded for Autism Mandate, But Move Has Critics

For six years, Ohio legislators have debated -- but never approved -- a bill that would require insurance companies to pay for autism treatment for children. Now, Gov. John Kasich has stepped in. He’s filed paperwork with the federal government that will basically mean that Ohio insurers will have to cover autism, as they do other mental health issues. At a ceremony in Columbus today, Kasich’s move was lauded by nearly a hundred legislators, parents, and activists. Statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen files this report.
