Akron Mayor Claims Councilmember Was 'Getting Out Of Control'

Mayor Plusquellic dis-invited council member Bob Hoch from the State of the City. He says that followed concerns from his cabinet members that Hoch - who has battled the mayor on issues ranging from fire department promotions to residency - was getting out of control.

"He was not talking as a normal, rational human being talks to say, 'This is wrong, I'm against the mayor politically. I don't like him. He's a Democrat. I'm a Republican. He believes in this, I believe in that.' I mean those comments I understand. This was screaming rage."

Plusquellic says he supports an email from his spokeswoman who said the mayor had reason to fear he would be shot.

Councilman Hoch denies he threatened anyone physically and says the mayor's history is to see any challenge as a personal affront. Hoch would not go on tape, but did go on record saying, "I was just trying to do my job. It's our responsibility to ask questions."
