SOME PEOPLE LOOK TO THE GROUNDHOG FOR THEIR WEATHER PREDICTIONS, BUT THE NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ASSOCIATION…WELL, THEY’VE GOT ANOTHER WAY TO GATHER WEATHER DATA. A FEW WEEKS AGO, WE TOLD YOU ABOUT A NEW WEATHER SATELLITE, WHICH IS NOW CALLED GOES-16, THAT TAKES AMAZINGLY DETAILED IMAGES OF WEATHER PATTERNS HERE ON EARTH. WELL, THE FIRST SET OF IMAGES OF BEEN RELEASED AND THEY’RE REMARKABLE.
LIKE THIS VIEW OF THE MOON ACROSS THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH ON JANUARY 15. AND THIS IMAGE OF A STORM OVER NORTH AMERICA THAT CAUSED FREEZING AND ICE ON THE LAND BELOW. AS YOU MIGHT RECALL, GOES-16, WHICH IS NOW ORBITING 22 THOUSAND MILES ABOVE US, WAS BROUGHT TO SPACE BY NASA. BUT THE SPACE AGENCY ISN’T JUST A SATELLITE TAXI! THEY’VE GOT SOME INTERESTING RESEARCH OF THEIR OWN.
