The officer was helping with a traffic stop when a driver struck him around 1 a.m. Sunday on State Route 2 eastbound, according to a news release from the city.

The city described the suspect vehicle as "a late-model, dark-colored Jeep Wrangler which will have sustained damage to its right front and possibly right side."
An earlier version of this story said that TriPoint Medical Center is in Painesville. It is in Concord Township.
