Opioids, Medicaid Among Portman's Sticking Points on Healthcare

U.S. Sen. Rob Portman says he attended a meeting on the healthcare bill yesterday as GOP leaders tried to work out changes after postponing a vote.
 
Portman opposes the healthcare proposal as currently written. In a conference call with reporters yesterday, he said funding for opioid treatment and Medicaid expansion are among his sticking points. 
 
“We’re continuing to try to work with the Senate leadership to come up with a better approach that does lower the cost of coverage, that’s important, does give better access to quality care, that’s important, but also protects some of the most vulnerable,” Portman said.
 
Portman has said he’d favor a seven-year reduction in federal payments for Medicaid expansion, rather than the three-year phase down in the bill.
