Cuyahoga County prosecutor Timothy McGinty was the guest speaker at a meeting for area Democrats Thursday evening. He discussed several issues affecting the county and answered questions from the audience. McGinty began his speech at Fairview Park City Hall with a statement that he said he would soon contradict. "Things are better than people think," he said.
McGinty then went on to discuss the county’s heroin epidemic, the investigation of old rape kits, and his office’s effort to end shootings and gang violence. Regarding incidents involving law enforcement, the prosecutor said one device in particular would be helpful.
"I think dash cams and body cams are going to put a lot of these problems to rest," said McGinty.
"You’re going to know the good stops and the bad stops, you’re going to know the good police officers and the bad police officers."
The evening ended with persistent questioning from community members and the press about the investigation into the police shooting of 12-year old Tamir Rice last November. McGinty avoided answering most of them because the case is currently being heard by a grand jury.
