The leader of the Ohio Supreme Court wants Ohioans to know more about the judges they elect to office. Statehouse correspondent Jo Ingles reports on how Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor intends to educate voters.
Chief Justice O'Connor says a lot of time and money goes into political races for local and statewide offices these days.
"Judges just get lost in the shuffle. The judiciary competes for attention with the partisan candidates and quite frankly, if you know anything about the nature of a judicial race, that's a pretty hard thing to do," O'Connor says.
In the long term, she wants Ohio lawmakers to allow voters to choose to elect judges in odd years when other big races aren't on the ballot and to put those judge's races at the top of the ticket.
And in the short term, she says a website that will be introduced in the next couple of weeks will help give voters a place to go to get all the information they need on local and statewide judicial races.
