Prosecutor to release report of Tamir Rice investigation at 3 pm

Cuyahoga County Sheriff Clifford Pinkney
Cuyahoga County Sheriff Clifford Pinkney

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s office this afternoon will release the Sheriff’s Department’s investigation into the death of Tamir Rice.  Last November, the 12 year old, who had been seen waving a realistic looking pellet gun at Cudell Recreation Center, was shot by a rookie Cleveland police officer.

Officer Frank Garmback drove the police car which stopped within feet of Rice.  His partner Timothy Loehmann shot Rice within seconds.

The Sheriff’s Department took over the investigation in January at the request of the Cleveland police department.  Earlier this month, Sheriff Clifford Pinkney said his office had completed its investigation and handed over its report to prosecutor Timothy McGinty’s office.  McGinty has said he will present evidence to a grand jury.

McGinty is expected to issue a statement on the report today.  WCPN.org will have the report and details when it’s released this afternoon at 3 pm.
