The Cleveland Indians invited fans and reporters for a look at renovations in progress Tuesday at Progressive Field. With just a few weeks to go before the season opens, construction crews are busy with final touches, including paint and signage.
Team spokesman Curtis Danburg gave them credit for slogging through record-low temperatures.
"The biggest hurdle because of the cold temperatures was getting the cement," he said.
With the ground finally softened from the warming weather, Danburg said workers will be able to pour cement this week, as part of renovations that include a kids’ activity area, and more open space for socializing. A revamped right field area will let fans eat, drink and watch the game without being glued to their seats. A new $13 ticket option covers standing-room-only access, and your first drink.
Danburg said other changes bring the city to the stadium. Local businesses, including Great Lakes Brewing Company, taco maker Barrio, soda fountain and desert shop Sweet Moses, and others will have new food stands. And a corner of the stadium has been opened up to allow a view of the downtown skyline.
The home opener is April 10th against the Detroit Tigers.
