Cleveland Police, Mayor Address Officer Shooting Of Boy With Pellet Gun

Cleveland police say two officers are on leave, and an investigation is underway after a policeman shot and killed a 12-year-old boy at a city park over the weekend. Police say the boy had been reaching for what appeared to be a handgun, and turned out to be a replica that fires plastic pellets.

The city's mayor and police chief answered questions about the case today at a crowded press conference. Ideastream's Nick Castele was there, and he spoke to Tony Ganzer. We hear first from police chief Calvin Williams.

Tony Ganzer has reported from Phoenix to Cairo, and was the host of 90.3's "All Things Considered." He was previously a correspondent with the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, covering issues like Swiss banks, Parliament, and refugees. He earned an M.A. in International Relations (University of Leicester); and a B.Sc. in Journalism (University of Idaho.) He speaks German, and a bit of French.
