The bronze statue of Schwarzenegger was first installed in front of Columbus’ Veterans Memorial, which is being demolished. A small ceremony in Schwarzenegger’s honor was held at the statue’s new home in front of the convention center where he holds his annual event.

Gov. John Kasich joked around with Columbus Mayor Mike Coleman about why he’s not as buff as the famous actor.

"He goes to all of the events. He’s unbelievable," Kasich said. "You think he’d look a little better having attended all of those events but no, he’s doing fine."

When Coleman took the mic after Kasich, he told the crowd there would be a new event at next year’s Arnold Classic.

"That 51st event will be an arm wrestling match between Gov. Kasich and Mike Coleman," Coleman said.

Schwarzenegger himself was the subject of high praise by Coleman, Kasich and others. They noted the actor has continued to hold his big event in Columbus, despite lucrative offers from other cities. And that prompted the actor to make this pact:

“I promise you today that it has been here, it is here and it will always be here in Columbus, Ohio," Schwarzenegger said.

And so will the statue of Schwarzenegger. About 175,000 people attended the event earlier this year and organizers are hoping next year will be even bigger and better.
