It’s time to get to work. That’s the message from the Ohio Association of Foodbanks, which represents a large portion of volunteers ready to sign people up for Medicaid.
Lisa Hamler-Fugitt, the group’s executive director, is ready to spring to action after months of advocating for expansion.
“This is truly a time when the policy now hits the pavement," Hamler-Fugitt said. "We need to be able to talk to the communities, educating low-income Ohioans about this new opportunity, what their rights and responsibilities are. Now comes the heavy lift.”
Hamler-Fugitt is giving the state a two-week head start to get everything in order. That gives volunteers around the state just 39 days to sign up 275,000 people, amounting to more than 7,000 uninsured Ohioans every day.
