Bill Mason left his post last year to join the Bricker and Eckler law firm. But he’s been watching the case surrounding alleged kidnapper and murderer Michael Madison. The 35-year-old registered sex offender is being held in connection with the deaths of Angela Deskins, Shetisha Sheeley, and Shirellda Terry.
The East Cleveland Mayor’s Office and law enforcement have taken no questions at press conferences, and have offered little information beyond the identities of the victims. Mason says this may be to keep the case moving along…
“My guess is, that they’re either doing some searches, or they’re checking some evidence, or they’re interviewing witnesses," says Mason. "They could be doing a plethora of things, and my guess is that there’s more going on, in that they’re trying to ferret out the information they’re gathering at the time, before they step out and tell the public about it.”
Mason adds the Madison’s alleged crimes look a lot like those committed by serial killer Anthony Sowell, who was convicted of killing 11 women he had kidnapped and raped. In fact, Mason goes so far as to call them copycat killings.
As to whether this – and the Ariel Castro case from May – hurts Cleveland’s reputation, Mason says these horrific activities happen in many large to medium cities.
