Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald says he's dispatching a special unit of about a dozen sheriff's deputies to monitor the route.
Marathon director Jack Staph says he's met with local and federal law enforcement to plan security.
STAPH: "We will have a large amount of -- a presence of security enforcement officers at the finish line, at the start and throughout the course. We will have bomb sniffing dogs in advance of the race and during the race. We will check and confiscate any bags that…are unattended."
Usually, the marathon contracts with a private security company to provide 350 to 400 off-duty police officers. Staph says that number will be going up this year.
