John Coats, the Director of Ohio Right to Life likes the idea.
COATS: "Planned Parenthood...has been the biggest provider of abortions throughout America and also within our state. And we are concerned about that. And we don’t believe they should be given this type of funding priority."
Kellie Copeland with NARAL Pro Choice Ohio intends to fight this proposal.
COPELAND: "Women’s health is a priority, and it should not be...cut in the budget. Here we have a budget that cuts access to family planning centers and turns around and gives money to crisis pregnancy centers that don’t provide any medical services, and in fact often lie to women."
This isn’t the first time Ohio lawmakers have considered this proposal to reprioritize federal funds for family planning. Some lawmakers wanted to pass it last year during the lame duck session at the end of the year but that bill went nowhere.
