Tax Amnesty Prgram Expires Friday

The Deputy Commissioner details how and why the program is in operation, and that it's been six years since the legislature authorized a similar tax break - with no promise of any others in the future/
The program for 2012 includes both businesses and individuals, and there is immunity from prosecution - as the program is voluntary, and taxpayers will report on themselves.

The state will keep records to verify future tax payments, and admits some of those who had previously escaped without payments, were people they were unaware of.
About $36 million is projected to be collected for the state, and officials think another $4m will be taken in for local or county issues that are paid through the state, such as school system taxes.

Applications for amnesty, and any money owed, must be postmarked by Friday midnight to qualify for the amnesty offer.
