Parole Board Recommends Against Clemency For Death Row Inmate

Death row inmate Reginald Brooks Senior was convicted of killing his three sons -- ages 17, 15, and 11 -- back in March of 1982. When his wife came home from work that day, she discovered her three sons, dead in their beds. Brooks had fled to Las Vegas. His attorneys, in this appeal for clemency, said he suffers from mental illnesses that possibly caused him to commit the crime back then. Brook’s lawyers said those same mental illnesses should keep him from being executed now, but in a unanimous decision, the Ohio Parole Board is recommending that Brook’s death sentence be carried out. The board noted there’s never been a question of the inmate’s guilt in this case -- and the board members say the fact that he knowingly took steps to cover up the crimes shows he was able to understand that it was wrong to commit the murders. Barring clemency from the Governor or another court action, Brooks is scheduled to be executed on November 15th.
