Senator Proposes Expanding Hate Crimes Law To Include Disabled

The law currently says people who threaten or attack others because of their race, religion, or ethnicity can expect tougher punishment. Democratic state senator Eric Kearney is proposing adding “disability” to the list. He says threats and violence against the disabled are indeed a problem, and he talks about that with statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen.

Whether his proposal will move in the legislature isn’t clear. Kearney is a Democrat, and Republicans dominate the Ohio Senate and House.
