Peter Lawson Jones is referred to in court documents as public official nine, deep inside the 141 page indictment of fellow commissioner Jimmy Dimora. Federal prosecutors say Jones agreed to vote with Dimora to hire two plumbers and to give a promotion to the wife of one of Dimora's good friends -- in exchange for a campaign fundraiser. Jones says he did vote with Dimora in those cases...
JONES: "Because they had been presented to us by staff and staff had made the case."
He says his votes had nothing to do with the fundraiser.
JONES: "There were no strings attached. No preconditions. No expectations that I would do favors for anyone or anybody."
Prosecutors have notcharged Jones with a crime. He hasn't hired an attorney and says he has no plans to do so. Jones and his fellow commissioners will be leaving office at the end of the year because of the overhaul of county government. He says he hopes to sit down with prosecutors in the weeks and months to come to clear his name.
JONES: "At the end of the day your good name is absolutely all that you have. It's all that you take with you. And for me the preservation of that is absolutely critical."
