ideastream's Rick Jackson reports.
Stuart Garson's appointment marked the end of an era for county democrats. Admitting that the party has much to do to overcome the stain of a 2-year corruption probe reaching to the top of the party leadership, Garson told ideastream's Dick Feagler that 'righting the ship' is his top priority.
GARSON: "and the party has been, I will say - rudderless for some time. I'd like to think that I can provide a valuable rudder, and I'd like to also think that we can pick out a worthy direction. I'm optimistic about that."
Garson had only been party chair three days when last week's party endorsement of Lakewood Mayor Ed Fitzgerald was announced, and he says he will work to promote that choice, though he had considered the option of not having an endorsement this year...
His immediate future includes running primary and general election campaigns, as voters will choose their first county executive and 11-member council. But he's already thinking of what comes next.
GARSON: "I am going to try to work much more collaboratively with our elected officials, hopefully keep them grounded, stay much more in touch with them, and make sure they have the proper support - and not just financial, but the proper professional and lay support."
Garson is a trial lawyer for the firm of Seaman-Garson, in Cleveland.
