AG Seeks Federal Help For Crime Victims

But one of the funds is running low on cash right now, prompting Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, along with attorney generals in other states, to ask the federal government for help. Cordray says he wants the a surplus of `federal' money to be transferred into the "state's" crime fund.

RICHARD CORDRAY: "We're asking them to raise the cap that they have on distribution to the states, which again is fully justified by the amounts of money coming into that fund from settlements and forfeitures and other proceeds of criminal investigations at the federal level, which would probably mean an additional $2million a year both to the state and to the local groups who receive grants from the state."

Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray says the state has already taken cost saving steps of its own to shore up the crime victims fund.
