Democrats have been in the minority in the state legislature since 1994. Now, after capturing the majority in Tuesday's election, they have a chance to address issues they believe have been neglected by republicans. Speaking on 90.3's The Sound of ideas, Budish spoke about the issues that are highest on his party's priority list.
BUDISH: Me and my colleagues in the house are committed to figuring out how we can reform education, we are really very concerned about that fact that more than a million Ohioans have no health insurance and many more have significant problems paying for their health care, and most importantly we need to improve the economic environment here in the state.
Budish says he expects the new democratic majority in the House will allow for not only more democratic initiated legislation, but also better bipartisan solutions to the problems of education, healthcare and jobs. He said expects to work closely with Governor Strickland his republican colleagues to further those aims in the coming term. The Ohio Senate is still under republican control by a wide margin.
