Agents from the FBI, IRS and the Department of Housing and Urban Development executed search warrants at nine sites. Among them were the office of CMHA executive director George Phillips, and the home of former MetroHealth Vice President John Carroll, who had been fired for taking gifts on a construction project. The feds also raided Siemens Building Technologies in Garfield Heights, which has done contract work for the CMHA, and Cleveland-based Reliance Mechanical.
In July, the FBI raided Cuyahoga County government offices including that of County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora and Auditor Frank Russo. Special Agent Scott Wilson says this week’s activity is a continuation of that ongoing public corruption probe.
WILSON: So we just continue to work this case and see where it’s going to take us.
Wilson said he couldn’t comment on what the agents were looking for at the various locations.
At the CMHA building, federal agents were seen roaming the hallways and eventually drove a black SUV to an underground garage to presumably load evidence.
