Ohio Political strategist Jerry Austin says its unlikely the governor will call a special election to replace Tubbs-Jones. Democratic precinct committee members of the 11th district will be responsible for appointing a new candidate for the November election.
AUSTIN: I think the first person you'd talk about is commissioner Peter Lawson Jones. Well I think there's a lot of people whose names ..C.J Prentiss, Nina Turner, Sabra Scott, Marsha Fudge, Marvin McMickle - you know, those are all folks that would be on anybody's list.
But officials like Peter Lawson Jones who are already running for re-election in November for his Cuyahoga County job will have one dilemma - they would have to give up their current democratic positions on the ballot, and according to election rules, they could not be replaced. Meaning the Republican candidate would run unchallenged.
