Congresswoman Tubbs Jones & What's She's Meant To Her Constituents

I met Stephanie election day, November 2000 when my then 9 year old daughter and I spent the day driving elderly voters to the polls. I recall standing outside the Euclid High School polling station and Stephanie, noticing my young daughter, came over and introduced herself to us and began talking to Zoey asking her how she enjoyed being part of an important election. At the time, I recall thinking how remarkable it was that this very busy public figure gave Zoey not only her time but her full attention. Stephanie made my daughter feel as important as any adult around. As she was ready to leave, she said "Zoey, if you ever want to come to Washington and spend a day with me, I'd love to have you." I remember Zoey being so excited and telling everyone about the invitation for days. Stephanie touched her heart and mine by just being who she was...a truly remarkable and caring person who knew how much influence she had on so many people, but never lost her human touch. I'd met her many times again over the years and each time I saw her she made me feel like she remembered me and was happy to see me. I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt that way.
