Ward 19 Councilwoman Dona Brady recalls a problem bar on Lorain Avenue that was recently closed.
Dona Brady: We had numerous complaints about that bar. Everything from alleged drug activity outside, bar fights, hordes of people standing in the street when the bar let out. It took me four years with this particular bar to get it closed.
City Safety Director Martin Flask says that due to poor reporting procedures, such incidents were hard to track in the past. Computers now allow the police to follow problem properties. The new legislation proposes to fine bar and home owners who get more than three warnings. If you someone gets more than three fines, they may be subject to criminal penalties. Council President Martin Sweeney hopes to have the nuisance ordinance passed next Monday night. David C. Barnett, 90.3.
