Some Cleveland-area residents are still without power after strong winds brought down trees and power lines Monday morning.
FirstEnergy reported 40,000 customers lost power while much of Northeast Ohio was under an urgent wind advisory with gusts up to 60 mph, though power has been restored to many areas.
Roads were closed throughout the Cleveland area as crews cleaned up fallen debris and downed lines. In Westlake, police closed Hilliard Boulevard after a tree fell on top of a vehicle around 6:30 a.m., injuring the driver. Police said the driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

David Kocevar, who works at the Board of Education down the street from where the tree fell, said the building was at partial power before anyone came in and power was restored quickly.
“They got power back onto us by 9:30 this morning, so as far as our operation, we were able to continue with our work,” Kocevar said. “We do see down the street that crews are still working on the trees, and probably some of the lines.”
But some residents are still waiting for power to come back on, in Westlake and other neighborhoods around Cleveland, including Brooklyn Heights, Gates Mills and Lakewood.
FirstEnergy says the hope is to restore power to most residents by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
