Please vote for one of the following Pet News of the Week candidates by (1) sending an e-mail to jgerber@ideastream.org or (2) calling the WCLV Contest Line at 1-800-343-WCLV (9258) and leaving a message. You can also post your vote by commenting on the “Queen of the Morn” Instagram page posted Friday, July 1. Since Monday, July 4 is a holiday, with special Independence Day programming, the winner will be announced on WCLV Tuesday, July 5 at 7:20 a.m. EDT and posted here.    Your contenders:

  1. The “Inuden” (“Dog Den”), a $150,000, architectural dog house built exclusively by hand by a Japanese palace carpenter. It is so exclusive that should the manufacturer receive more than one order per year, a lottery will be held to determine who will get the house;
  2. Tigger, the cat who arched his back and fended off a black bear on her owner’s property in British Columbia;
  3. Vance the emu, who escaped his owner’s New Jersey property and was found nearly a week later when he broke into a horse paddock – on his owner’s property.  While Vance was gone, neighbors sent the owner messages telling her where Vance was last seen;
  4. The kitten in Fairfax County, Virginia, who was rescued by firefighters when she became stuck in the engine compartment of an SUV. The kitten was adopted by a co-worker of the person who called the fire department;
  5. The alligator, dubbed, “Little Princess,” who recently “married” a Mexican mayor in a wedding which was part of an age-old indigenous ritual to bring abundance to the village in southwestern Mexico.  The “bride” wore white, and after she was carried through the streets while being serenaded by musicians and accompanied by dancers, the mayor sealed their nuptials with a kiss. The bride’s jaws were secured shut to prevent any unwanted biting.
