W. C. Fields' 1934 movie, "It's a Gift," features a scene in which a customer, seeking kumquats from the grocer played by Mr. Fields, becomes crankier and crankier when the kumquats do not materialize. Kumquats are frequently seen in NE Ohio grocery stores this time of year. Eat one and you'll pucker all day.
