1900 Alexander Mossolov – Soviet composer (d.1973); achieved his greatest fame for his 1926 composition, Iron Foundry; conflicts with Soviet authorities led to his expulsion from the Composers' Union in 1936 and imprisonment in the Gulag in 1937; later turned his attention to setting Turkmen and Kyrgyz folk tunes for orchestra.

1927 Raymond Leppard – English conductor and harpsichordist (died October 22nd, 2019, at 92); played an instrumental role in the rebirth of interest in baroque music; in particular, he was one of the first major conductors to perform baroque opera; from 1987–2001, music director of the Indianapolis Symphony.

1929 Alun Hoddinot – Welsh composer (d.2008); his musical style has been described as "modernist romantic."

1933 Tamás Vásáry – Hungarian-born pianist and conductor (87 years old); was an assistant at Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest to Zoltán Kodály, who once made him a gift of a Steinway piano; awarded the UNESCO Mozart Medal in 2012 in recognition of his talent and dedication to the universal values that inspire the organization.
