1583 Girolamo Frescobaldi baptized – Italian composer (d.1643); one of the most important composers of keyboard music in the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods.
1872 Edward Burlingame Hill – American composer and teacher (d.1960); among his famous students, Leonard Bernstein, Roger Sessions, Elliott Carter, Walter Piston, and Virgil Thomson.
1949 Ádám Fischer – Hungarian conductor (71 years old); Music Director of the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra, with which he recorded the complete Haydn symphonies for the Nimbus label, the first digital recording of the cycle; elder brother of conductor Iván Fischer.
1957 Pierre-Laurent Aimard – French pianist (63 years old); Cleveland Orchestra Artist-in-Residence 2007-2009; quote: "I'm a musician, and the piano happens to be my instrument."
1961 Jean-Yves Thibaudet – French pianist (59 years old); both he and Pierre-Laurent Aimard were born in Lyon on the same date 4 years apart; has made forays into the world of jazz, playing transcriptions of improvisations on the CDs Conversations with Bill Evans (1997) and Reflections on Duke (1999).
