Summit in Akron will look for ways to reduce evictions

During the pandemic, a number of measures and moratoriums were enacted to help prevent renters from being evicted from their apartments or homes and assist them in maintaining stable housing.  Those measures and moratoriums have expired leaving local communities to figure out how best to tackle the problem going forward even as the pandemic remains with us.  Activists say stable neighborhoods benefit everyone: tenants, landlords and cities.  

This week in Akron an Eviction Prevention Summit will bring together stakeholders including renters, landlords, public officials, developers, and community organizations. Those groups say it is time to move past talking about evictions and actually tackling the issue and finding solutions for both renters and landlords. It’s a multi-layers issue that is further complicated by rising rental prices among other factors.

 Ahead on today’s show we hear from some of the participants from the summit and their ideas on how to reduce evictions and provide stable housing.
