When did you last hear serious talk -- about AIDS? Suddenly, it's back, with a CDC admission that the number of HIV cases has long been underestimated -- by forty percent. A new Center for Disease Control report says monitoring HIV infections used to be a challenge, due to many cases not diagnosed until years after they occur. Research and analysis puts the number of new HIV infections in the United States for 2006 at approximately 56,300 not 40,000. If part of what we knew nationally is wrong, what's the truth in Northeast Ohio, where new HIV/AIDS figures show a big increase of 57% among 15 to 24 year olds? With increased knowledge, free condoms, and free needles - why the sudden boost? Area experts take your calls, and we'll learn about a radical new approach to AIDS prevention, Friday morning at nine - on 90.3.David Bruckman, Biostatistician & Chief Systems Analyst, Cleveland Department of Public Healthand Adjunct Instructor in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the CWRU School of Medicine
