Since the curtain fell on Opera Cleveland in 20-10, other smaller companies have stepped up to fill Northeast Ohio's operatic vacuum with song. There's Opera Circle, Cleveland Opera Theater, and the student productions of both The Cleveland Institute of Music and The Oberlin Conservatory.
Since 2012, a group of young opera singers have staged programs locally as Great Lakes Light Opera which makes its name by performing in unconventional venues. This Friday and Saturday the troupe brings a chamber opera by Cleveland-born composer David Conte to The East Cleveland Theater - The Gift of the Magi.
