Your Answers: What task could a robot perform to keep people safe?

In last week's episode, we learn about a robot that is able to extinguish flames when they are too dangerous for firefighters. Write to us: What task could a robot perform to keep people safe?

“I believe that robots could help keep elderly people safe in many ways. When the robot washes its owner’s dirty clothes, the robot could transport the clothing from one floor to another so the elderly people would not have to walk up and down stairs with heavy laundry baskets.

"The robot could get groceries so the elderly person would not have to worry about going to the store each month. They would be worried because sometimes their bones could get aches. Robots don’t have bones, so that would not happen to them.

"The robot could disinfect commonly used areas, definitely during the time of this coronavirus pandemic. I hope these robots become a reality for senior citizens one day.”
-Devon from Fairfax Elementary in Cleveland Heights

“A robot named RHService1000 (Rescue Help Service 1000) would rescue people after floods. First, someone would use a remote control to make the RHService1000 swim through the water or over the water. It would swim underwater to rescue drowning people.

"It would clear pollution if trash gets swept into the storm and over the water for people on rafts. Then, the people would get inside the robot, like getting inside a submarine. They would get dropped off on shallow water so that adults, elderly, and kids, including babies, can get to higher and dryer land.

"Last, it repeats. It cleans more trash while collecting pets and spraying at least 1/12-2/18 ounces of chlorine every 3 minutes. (That way, sea life will not go extinct.)”
-Cayde from Meadowview Elementary in Milford

"Robots can do many amazing things for the world, and for humans as well. Currently, humans may be struggling because of COVID-19. Maybe robots could help humans because of this.

"Sometimes, we forget to wash our hands and use hand sanitizer, so a robot could keep an extra sink, soap, a towel, and hand sanitizer inside of it to keep us clean. The robot could also give off a "beep" or some sort of sound to remind you to sanitize. This robot could be called a "Cleanobot."

"Another idea is that there could be a Mask-Making Robot. This robot could have a stitching set inside of it and fabric. It could also have elastic. The robot could open when you press a button, and there could be a little computer where you type in what color and what type of mask you want. The robot could make you the mask, and you can use it. You would then have a stylish mask to wear! This robot could be called a MMR, which is short for a Mask-Making Robot.

"These were just a few ideas. I hope you like them!”
-Charlotte from Wilson Elementary in Cincinnati

“One helpful task a robot could perform to keep people safe is by guiding blind people. It could be just like a service dog, but it wouldn’t cost as much. It would be tall so you could hold its hand to guide you. You could tell it where you want to go, and it will take you there. When there is traffic, it will stop and go when it is safe. That is a helpful task that could keep people safe!”
-Brooklyn from A.J. Jordak Elementary in Middlefield

“If we could have a robot do something, I would have it take care of the forest so that they can plant trees and give them water. It would also plant flowers for bees. It would get rid of all weeds and parasites. It will take care of animals so that they do not go extinct. How they would help people is that they would take care of the trees that we breathe from and stop wildfires so that no more animals or people die.”
-Isabella from Summit Elementary in Cincinnati

“My robot would be a therapist named Meep. Meep has two antennae on his head that can detect lies through brain waves, and two triangles on the sides of his head to see and hear your true emotions. His monitor on his head is to talk and to show his own emotions. Under his bowtie, there is, yet again, another monitor. This one shows the patient's heart rate to make sure that the client isn't getting too stressed. That is a break down of Meep the robot.”
-Liz from Seipelt Elementary in Milford
