A Plus: Sam Holter's Award-Winning Video

READ THE SCRIPT:

Our A Plus this week is being awarded to a student who is using his media skills to make our roads safer. Boardman High School junior Sam Holter won the Ohio Turnpike’s “Wait to Text” video competition, which aims to discourage texting and driving among teens.

Sam made a 60-second video called “ Are You There?” which highlights the dangers of texting while driving. The young filmmaker wrote, recorded, edited and acted in the video.

The contest was held over the summer, which the Ohio Turnpike says is when drivers are most likely to be in a serious crash. As the winner, he gets to donate 500 dollars to a school club of his choice, as well as pick between prizes that can help upgrade his production gear.

Sam said “I feel extremely honored to be chosen as the winner for this contest. It means a lot to have this important message being viewed by so many people in the community."

Sam said he decided to enter the contest because he wanted to make a difference. This multi-talented teen has been working behind the camera since he was eight, recently sharpening his skills in video production classes at school.

While waiting for inspiration n for his next film, he directs the video board at school sporting events. Way to Go, Sam! We’re so happy to award you this week’s A Plus.
