READ THE SCRIPT:
This week’s A Plus goes to a school that raised money for their parent teacher organization and their good sport principal who spent a night on the roof.
Students at Ella Canavan Elementary in Medina participated in the Laps for Ladders fundraiser, collecting pledges to run laps at school and to help spread the word about the PTO’s fundraising goals.
Their principal, Mr. Condit, promised to spend a night on the school’s roof if they reached $10,000. Students far exceeded that goal, helping raise more than $16,000! True to his word, the principal gathered a tent, sleeping bag and a few books, preparing for his night on the roof.
Everyone was surprised when the Medina Fire Department showed up with their biggest fire truck to raise him up to the rooftop camp site. They hoisted him much higher into the sky than anyone anticipated!
While up there, the principal read three bedtime stories to a crowd of ground-level visitors and talked with members of the community until late that night. He was awakened early the next day by the bright lights of a news crew at 5 in the morning...and was ready to greet students arriving an hour and a half later.
Fifth grader Aidan said about the experience "I liked running the laps backward, getting squirted with squirt guns and watching Mr. Condit go on the roof."
The money will be used to bring assemblies to the school and take students on field trips. It will also help provide every student with a book during Right to Read Week and put benches in an outdoor classroom space.
Nice job guys, we’re happy to hand you this week’s NewsDepth A Plus.
