In this week's show we learned about a program in Boston which gave kindergarteners $50 and their own savings account. Rewatch the story above.
We asked you to tell us what you would do if you were given $50 and a savings account. Here are your answers.
Lilly, Stranahan Elementary School, Toledo: "If I had $50 in my bank account, I would save up lots of money and give it to my school. My school would probably get new equipment and things to help the kids learn."
Abigail, East Woods Elementary, Hudson: "First I would save up. Then I would see how much a huge new playground would cost. Then I would work as hard as I can to get that much money. Then I would have a talk with the mayor to decide where the new park will be. Then it will be built there. Finally we can play on the playground."
Ethan, William Bruce Elementary, Eaton: "If I had $50 I would save it until I have $1,000 to get a nice motorcycle."
Cheyanne, Jefferson Elementary, Jefferson: "What I would do if I got $50 and a bank account like the kids in Boston would be to try to save until I go to college. Why I would do that is because my parents and other relatives would not have to hand over all this money just for me. Even though that $50 is not a very large amount compared to college funds, it still does help in any way. What I think is a good way to manage your money is to save it for college like I want to do. There are other ways that I believe are good like donating the money, or saving it up to things that you really need. This is what I would do if I were set up with $50 and a bank account."
Caitlyn, Claggett Middle School, Medina: "I would make sure that all money I get would go directly into my bank account. Holiday gifts and birthday gifts that I received as money would go directly into my account. I would also ask my parents to pay me for additional chores they need assistance with. Examples would be putting laundry away and vacuuming the house. That money would also be deposited into my bank account. My goal would be to save as much money as I can so I can have tons of spending cash when I go to college."
