MOTHER NATURE HAS NOT BEEN PLAYING NICE.
HELLO EVERYONE, I’M RICK JACKSON. THANKS FOR JOINING US.
SOUTHERN MEXICO HAS BEEN SHAKEN UP ONCE AGAIN. THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST THREE EARTHQUAKES IN THE PAST MONTH.
A 6.1 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE RATTLED THE COUNTRY OVER THE WEEKEND. IT FOLLOWED A 7.1 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE THAT STRUCK THE STATE OF MORELOS JUST DAYS BEFORE. THAT'S ABOUT 70 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE COUNTRY’S CAPITAL OF MEXICO CITY, THE MOST POPULOUS CITY IN NORTH AMERICA. AND IT WAS JUST LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE THAT THE AREA EXPERIENCED A MAGNITUDE 8.1 EARTHQUAKE. 'THAT' WAS THE LARGEST QUAKE TO HIT THE COUNTY IN A CENTURY.
RESCUERS CAME FROM ALL OVER TO HELP SEARCH THROUGH THE RUBBLE OF FALLEN BUILDINGS, INCLUDING JAPANESE RELIEF WORKERS WHO HEADED OUT FROM TOKYO -- AND A PACK OF MEXICO’S SEARCH AND RESCUE CANINES.
REPORTER OMAR JIMENEZ WAS THERE DURING THE RESCUE MISSION.
