Every year tornadoes ravage parts of the U.S. Many of these tornadoes roll through an area called tornado alley, a stretch located in the middle of the country which includes states like Kansas and Oklahoma.
But researchers say the number of deadly tornadoes in the southeast are disproportionately large when compared to the overall number of tornadoes across the country. In fact, the area which includes states like Alabama and Georgia is a common hotspot for twisters.
This spring, scientists will chase these tornadoes in an effort to learn more about the region's weather -- and how to save more lives.
