FDA Proposes Tanning Ban for Minors

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is also stepping in when it comes to the health of kids. They're proposing new rules to 'ban' minors from using tanning beds.

The FDA proposal would prohibit the use of sunlamp products at indoor tanning facilities to people under the age of 18.

They're also proposing stricter safety regulations for adults, including a requirement that users sign a risk acknowledgment form every six months. The agency said indoor tanning is a known contributor to skin cancer, including the most deadly form of melanoma.

Still, 1.6 million children use indoor tanning beds each year, increasing their cancer risks. The indoor tanning association has previously accused the FDA of exaggerating the risks.
