Russian Athletes Accused of Cheating

A new, explosive, report could have a profound impact on the future of Russian athletics... and even the 2016 Olympics.

Russian athletes are accused of doping. Doping in sports refers to the use of illegal drugs to obtain an edge in performance.

The world anti-doping agency is calling for Russia to be banned from international track and field competition, uncovering what it called a “deeply rooted culture of cheating at all levels”. It accuses the Russian state of allowing, even sponsoring, illegal doping.

The report focuses on track and field, but the findings suggest other sports were also involved. The anti-doping commission went as far as to suggest banning Russia from the 2016 Olympics. Lifetime bans for coaches and athletes involved were also recommended.

Russia has until the end of the week to respond to the allegations.
