NEWSDEPTH QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Who owns the rights to the monkey selfie? The monkey or the photographer?
Mrs. Lehman, Springdale Elementary: My class just started watching your program for the first time last week and we love it! My fourth grade students are very excited to discuss what they learn on the show and we love the question of the week! Today we voted and 10 students felt that the monkey should have the rights to the selfie, while 4 felt that the photographer should. Those who were pro-monkey felt that even if it wasn’t his camera, he took the pictures, so he should get the money from them. Our pro-photographer voters felt that the monkey was in the wrong for using the camera since it didn’t belong to him, so therefore the money should go to the photographer. Fun discussion! You have gained some new viewers and we look forward to your upcoming broadcasts!
Priya, Bexley City Schools: I think that instead of the photographer or the monkey getting the money, that they should donate the money to an organization that protects monkeys!
Abbigayle, North College Hill Middle School: I enjoyed the topic about saving the sloths of Suriname. I liked that topic because the woman knew that sloths are slow and when the trees fall down they might not be able to survive. I liked how she had all those sloths in her house and how they sleep and where. She is my inspiration, because when I grow up I want to save animals. P.S. I LOVE NEWSDEPTH. You guys entertain thousands of people. Keep up the good work!
Gabi, Central Intermediate School: I love those sloths! They are so cute, and look very cuddly. I wish I could save one myself. They look so soft and smiley. They are so cute. I don’t think they could agitate one single thing. By the way, I love what you did with the show!
Conter, Maryland Elementary: I thought the segment about Monique Pool, the sloth protector in Suriname was inspiring and super cute. I love all animals, but sloths are definitely one of my favorites. I know that sloths are facing loss of habitat, and I am so glad there are people out there that are trying to help. I would love to help animals like that one day.
Annie, Winesburg Elementary: I can't believe that you can make a part of the skull. I think it would be really fun to make and design. I wonder how long it takes to make each one?
Jack, Winesburg Elementary: I liked the story about the prosthetic skull. It is very good that they developed this method. It could help people who had a piece of skull missing. I also enjoy art and science.
Lily, Greentown Intermediate School: I loved how that lady likes to help sloths. They are so adorable! Sloths are really cool because they sleep everyday.I love NewsDepth. I’ll watch it every week.\
Abby, St. Mary Magdalene School: It’s really interesting that we could potentially find intelligent life other than us in our own solar system. Though I don’t think we’ll find people like us walking around on the red planet. At best, NASA may find uncomplicated bacteria or something like that. You never know though, one day we could be living on Mars like we do on Earth. It does sound unlikely, but nothing is impossible.
Shaylee, Rushwood Elementary: I really like that you take information and turn it into something kids and teens want to watch. You must have to be on a good lookout for news to put on NewsDepth. I think you’re really good at posting videos for everyone to see. A lot of people like your videos in 3 rd grade. The fact about salt water being on Mars is very interesting. I thought that Mars was hot and not cold though. P.S. You’re awesome!
Richie, Lee Eaton Elementary School: I love that there is water on mars, and I can’t wait to see if we can live there someday. Also on the Petting Zoo, I feel happy for the baby rhino.
Kellen & Collin, School of Innovation: Keep up the good work. We hope to never run out of ideas thanks to you! Please give a shout out to Mrs. Mckito, Alvord, Kothera and Withrow. Thanks for keeping us entertained with the interesting facts about Ohio.
Hayley, Madison Avenue Elementary: I think the monkey has the rights for the selfies!! The monkey took the photos and is in the picture, not the photographer.
EJ, Northfield Elementary: Even though I have only seen 2 shows, I think you guys are awesome!
Danny, Northfield Elementary: Newsdepth is the best news channel and is not like the other boring channels. I love learning and seeing what is going on around the world.
Ashley, Riverside School: I like the story when they talked about the apples. Fruit is good for you. I also like to eat apples for lunch!
Markeith, Riverside School: I saw a skull and bones. I liked the story because it reminded me about Halloween.
Franklin, Meadowlawn Elementary: I think the photographer has the rights to the picture because it was his camera. Besides, it was an accident that the monkey took the photo anyway. I don't really agree about PETA’s view on the matter.
Paige, Meadowlawn Elementary: I learned that scientists are still studying Pluto. They said the picture of Pluto's surface looks like dragon scales. I learned that PETA is suing a photographer because a monkey took a selfie on his camera and they think the monkey should get the money. I learned that Lorain's river was very dirty and they are getting money from the government to clean it up. I learned that Obama took the copyright off the happy birthday song. Thank you for reading.
