President Obama is reaching out to the younger generation with the use of a selfie stick. The president posted a video online of him hiking through Exit glacier in the Kenai Fjords National Park. The video is partly filmed from his point of view.
He is the first sitting U.S. president to visit the arctic.
In his post, President Obama talked about how climate change is effecting the glacier, the state of Alaska... and the country as a whole. The video was part of the president's online travelogue of his tour of Alaska.
While on his visit to the largest state in the U.S., President Obama officially renamed the country's tallest mountain. The president formally changed the name of Mt. McKinley to Denali, the traditional name used by the local indigenous, or original, people.
Mt. McKinley was named for William McKinley in 1896, shortly after he was nominated as a candidate for the presidency. The national park in which the 20,000, 320 foot peak sits was named Denali back in 1980, but the mountain itself has still been listed in official documents as McKinley.
Past attempts to change the name were blocked by lawmakers from McKinley's home state, which just so happens to be our home state of Ohio.
