Ohio Headlines: Cleveland Monopoly, Cheese Championship, Golfer Honored

PUT DOWN THAT XBOX CONTROLLER AND ROLL THE DICE.... BECAUSE 'CLEVELAND' WILL BE FEATURED ON THE LATEST EDITION OF THE MONOPOLY BOARD GAME. HASBRO ANNOUNCED THE LIST OF CITIES TO APPEAR ON THE U.S. EDITION OF THE BOARD GAME THAT WILL BE RELEASED THIS FALL FOR MONOPOLY'S 80TH ANNIVERSARY.

CLEVELAND PASSED GO AND MADE THE CUT OF TWENTY TWO CITIES VOTED ON BY ENTHUSIASTS AROUND THE COUNTRY. CLEVELAND WILL JOIN ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA AND DENVER, COLORADO AS ORANGE SPACES ON THE BOARD.

THE STATE OF WISCONSIN MAY BE KNOWN FOR IT... BUT OHIO CLAIMS THE NUMBER ONE SPOT. THAT’S RIGHT, AN OHIO CHEESEMAKER WON THE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP CHEESE WITH A 200-POUND SWISS WHEEL.

GUGGISBERG CHEESE IN MILLERSBURG, OHIO, BEAT OUT NEARLY TWO THOUSAND ENTRIES FROM 28 STATES.

OF A POSSIBLE 100 POINTS, THE SWISS WHEEL SCORED 98.496 IN THE FINAL ROUND OF JUDGING. FIRST RUNNER-UP WAS A BRICK CHEESE MADE BY JOHN PITMAN OF MILL CREEK CHEESE IN ARENA, WISCONSIN. THEIR SCORE WAS 98.389.

THE COMPETITION IS THE LARGEST TECHNICAL EVALUATION OF CHEESE, BUTTER AND YOGURT IN THE U.S.

GOLFING GREAT AND COLUMBUS NATIVE JACK NICKLAUS ADDS ANOTHER AWARD TO HIS COLLECTION. HE WAS IN WASHINGTON TO RECEIVE THE CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL.

HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER, AN AVID GOLFER AND FELLOW OHIO NATIVE, HOSTED THE CEREMONY HONORING NICKLAUS ON CAPITOL HILL. THE GOLD MEDAL IS THE HIGHEST CIVILIAN AWARD CONGRESS CAN BESTOW.

NICKLAUS RECEIVED A PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM IN 2005. HE IS THE THIRD GOLFER TO LAND THE CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL, AFTER BYRON NELSON AND ARNOLD PALMER.
